Pee Dee Expo

PEE DEE LOCAL AUTHOR EXPO

Yesterday the Florence Library System (in South Carolina) provided a setting for local writers to meet one another and readers at the Pee Dee Local Author Expo. Doug helped me haul in my material and set up the table. We were ready to go before the doors opened at 2:00 PM.

A steady stream of visitors came through the conference room doors, among them families with young readers. My table was next to that of children’s author Maxine Poston, whose books drew a lot of attention. I had a chance to talk with visitors about historical fiction and the challenges of writing. Not a few visitors were closet writers themselves, looking for the courage to reveal their work to public scrutiny.

The Author's Expo was held at the Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library, which, as you might guess, was built with funds provided in part by a foundation established following the sale of a nearby hospital in 2003. The library has a monumental presence in the classical style.

The event was well supported by the library staff. I hope it continues its success.
