Beaufort
AWAY FROM HOME WRITING
I’m packing for Beaufort where I’ll spend several weeks working on my Lily manuscript. It's about a two-hour drive from my home in Columbia, SC. I’ve been busy with other matters and so far away from Lily that I will open the files with some trepidation. There’s always a chance you’ll lose your enthusiasm for a story which, more than anything else, turns writing into drudgery. It’s like being dead in the water. You can often tell when a writer has no ardor or passion for his work. Even when the words work hard to tell of intrigues, heartache, or sex, there arises between the lines a spiritual absence.
